Intern/Americorps Teacher Program Are you interested in teaching? How about in an environment with small class sizes and dedicated and supportive faculty? One that provides the opportunity to coach and be an advisor to a small group of students, as well as to pursue a free graduate degree at Loyola College in Maryland? The Saint Ignatius Loyola Academy intern teacher program is a two year program where you will work with highly motivated inner-city boys who attend the Academy on full scholarships and who are aspiring to attend private high school and college. Ninety-nine percent have either graduated from high school or received a G.E.D., and eighty-four percent have enrolled and/or graduated from college. You will work and live as part of a team of young and energetic full-time teachers who reside across the street from the academy and who enjoy their work. As an intern teacher, your service year will begin with your gaining valuable first-year teaching experience serving as a summer school teacher in our four-week July program for rising 6th graders. During the regular school, you will teach a 1/2 load of classes (about 2 to 3 sections per day), serve as an advisor and coach, and assist with administrative tasks. The academic year concludes with your service as a camp counselor in the academy's two-week sleep-away camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains (June). Remuneration: Free housing in your own apartment right across the street from school Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance Meals and living allowances Health club membership Deferment of student loans, plus Americorps Education Award of $4725 (eligible after a year of service at SILA) Free graduate school at Loyola College in the Education department while you work at the Academy (conditional on being accepted and the college's continuing partnership)
