Students Meet with Newbury Award Winning Author

Seventh grader Clyde Tatum gets to know Lois Lowry

On April 14, 2008, five lucky sixth and seventh graders went to the Children’s Bookstore in Roland Park to meet Lois Lowry, twice a Newbury Award winning author. Lowry has written 35 books, and one of those, Number The Stars, is part of the sixth grade English curriculum. The Giver, her other Newbury winning book, is immensely popular with our boys and most middle school students. The St. Ignatius students asked Ms. Lowry several questions about her own personal reading interests and her inspiration for writing Number The Stars and The Giver. At the end of the question/answer session, each boy got a personalized autographed copy of one of her books. It was an exciting day
