Saint Ignatius Loyola Academy Announces New President John Ciccone has been named the 3rd President of Saint Ignatius Loyola Academy in Baltimore effective July 1, 2009. Mr. Ciccone succeeds the Rev. David A. Sauter, S.J. who announced in December that he would step down as President after five years of service to the Academy. Mr. Ciccone has a distinguished academic background with a Master’s Degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education as well as completion of Executive Education programs at the Harvard Business School, the New Heads Institute at the National Association of Independent Schools and the Principal’s Institute at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Mr. Ciccone taught at Baltimore City College for three years, and served as Assistant Head of School and Head of School at the SEED School in Washington, D.C. Currently, Mr. Ciccone is the Chief Administrative Officer of the French International School in Bethesda, MD. The Academy’s mission of providing a faith based education to underserved communities was particularly attractive to Mr. Ciccone. He said, “I have long wanted to return to Catholic education, especially in an urban setting. Catholic schools are inspired faith communities that care for the whole child with equal attention given to physical, social, academic, and spiritual needs of students. As a Catholic school graduate and urban educator, I recognize that NativityMiguel schools are serving educational needs that have too often gone unfulfilled in many cities. I am honored by the opportunity to serve Baltimore's young men by leading St. Ignatius Loyola Academy into the next decade.” Speaking on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Academy, Board Chair John Leahy says, “We are delighted to welcome John Ciccone back to Baltimore. From his experience working in urban schools, John understands both the challenges and opportunities facing the Academy. I am confident he will bring both the energy and expertise needed to carry our vision forward.” back |
