Navigating the High School Placement Process

Step 1: Meeting with the GSP Team

Our Graduate Support Program (GSP) is here to provide guidance to both students and parents as you begin to navigate the high school placement process. In 7th grade, we will begin working with students and parents to learn about more about your goals and to help begin thinking about what’s next.

Parents should sign up for Class Dojo for announcements related to the high school admissions process.

Step 2: Exploring your High School Options

The High School Fair
Each fall, GSP hosts a High School Fair which is mandatory for all 7th and 8th grade students and their parents. Most of the local independent, Archdioscean and competitive public schools are in attendance along with a number of boarding schools Academy alumni have attended. This is a great opportunity to learn about each school and ask questions of each school’s Admissions representatives. This is also a wonderful opportunity for students to introduce themselves to each school. Save the date for this year’s High School Fair: Monday, September 11, 2023 at 5:30pm in the Academy’s lower level!

High School “Shadow Days”
Each year, the Academy designates days for students to visit high schools. “Shadow Days” provide an opportunity for students to spend a day at a high school, shadowing a student to get an idea of what it would be like to be a students there. These days often allow students an opportunity to decide if the school is the right one for him. Likewise, it provides the school a chance to meet your son and learn more about him. Many high schools require a shadow day as part of the admissions process.

Exploring Options Online
A good way to learn more about the high schools that are out there, are to explore their websites. Check out their Admissions pages and look for important deadlines, scholarship opportunities and videos that give you a “feel” for the school.
